New build released - 0.1.1

Posted March 28, 2008

This is our second release and to a very small set of users - but we have some cool features all the same and will be opening up to a much wider user base very soon!

A lot of bug fixing and tweaking went into this release, both in the user interface (Thanks a lot, IE!) and in the backend code. Some of the more noticeable changes are:

  • Updated UI for dialogs - shinier, cleaner, and easier to use!
  • New feed component - Multiple feeds can be added per component, and each component has a few options to customize how the feeds are displayed, and how many entries to show.
  • A bunch more themes have been added - we now have 25 themes, and lots more on the way.
  • The navigation editor was overhauled and now has a nice drag and drop interface.
  • New component for raw HTML, to make it easier to paste copy/paste code from other web services, or to write your own code.
  • CNAME support - if you own your own domain you can now setup a cname record to serve your viviti site on your domain (or a subdomain of your domain).

We also did a bunch of benchmarking and came out with some nice results -  over 700 requests per second while maintaining good response time and availability. This exceeds what these servers need to do, so these were welcome results!

I have been with Bravenet for quite a few years now. I love it! I'd never go anywhere else. Question about Viviti....
I purchased a flash website template elsewhere, and it's been collecting dust in a folder, since I don't know flash, or have felt like paying someone hundreds of dollars to edit it for me. Will Viviti work on flash sites??

I am glad and grateful to God that this is the answer to my prayer for an easy website builder.

I have been using Bravenet since 2005 and I am in love with it.
I always wanted an easy to use website builder like Blogger and I have to upload templates from WordPress and SMF for my websites on Bravenet, but I would have preferred to do everything from within the safety and security of Bravenet without migrating to other ISPs. So, this good news is very exciting!

The easier the better and faster humans learn and improve.

Thank you.

I have 8 websites on Bravenet for several years now for the various organizations my husband and I belong to. I recommend it to everyone that asks me. My question is one of my groups ask if I could upload a video they made of their installation. Will I be able to do that with your new web builder?

An honest evaluation from the Bravenet folks: Is this platform on the same level for website building as Squarespace? Is that the goal -- to surpass that level? Or is this just to compete with Blogger and WordPress? Thanks, dg

Hey there,
I have only started creating a website with Bravenet as I love the different features you offer (e-Cards, Blog etc). Only the design options I am not so fond of. I was therefore wondering when exactly Viviti is going be usable. If in the near future (4-6 weeks) then I would rather wait for this to be able to come up with a bit more original design rather than creating a website on Bravenet now and then completely re-creating it later on Viviti.
Your advice on this would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks!
Nadia

I am waiting anxiously for a Viviti invitation. I have used various Bravenet services, but have not done well with the site building service. I have tried many, and am presently using about half a dozen, online site builders, but I am still waiting for the ideal service for impecunious, quintessential end-users like myself, a 74 year-old retired history teacher/lecturer, grandmother of eight. So - I'm waiting for Viviti!

Not the question you're looking for, but one I would like to add. When will you have: "Add-A-Friend" code I can place on my site?

Thanks,

Jerrett, Can Viviti Site Builders Use Flash And Java On Their Viviti Sites?

14 Fred V. Malinao: May 19, 2008

I have published two free websites using bravenet and I found it very useful and easy to use. Our organizations appreciated the results. I have other affiliations requested me to make websites for them. Thanks if this Viviti will be launched for our use so I can use a better design. Thanks & God Bless!

Jerrett, My New Company Mummer Net Direct Is Looking For A Website. We Are Going To Use Viviti. We Requested A Beta Key, But We Never Got One. When is Viviti Going To Send Out Beta Keys????

16 yt: May 20, 2008

I purchased hosting thru Bravenet, and thus got the "pro" selection of web-building templates. I'd like to try out Viviti, but would like to know if it would be integrated with Bravenet enough where I could build the site here, and "place" it there. Will I be able to save the CSS or HTML so I can upload it to Bravenet hosting?

18 TCA: May 21, 2008

I have a few questions aboiut Viviti.

1. Is it similar to Weebly?
2. Will it have the templates included on the Bravenet website builder?
3. Will it have a forum feature?
4. If you sell domains, how much will they cost?

Thanks in advance.

20 hmmm: May 22, 2008

so enough with the hype. Release it. and if it's not ready, then quit the hype. We want action, not useless words!

21 TCA: May 22, 2008

Thanks! You answered all my questions. So will I get my beta key today?
